What is the LORD Looking For?

We often consider those verses which exhort us to seek the LORD. And that is absolutely necessary! But today I want us to consider first, what the LORD is seeking.

Is the LORD seeking…His own glory? Absolutely. And He cares greatly how He is represented on the earth by His children. Those who are made in His own image, being the image of Christ! I am convinced in these last days the LORD is jealous for His name, meaning His reputation (or glory, identity). And we, the ones born of heaven, being, born of God. And “New Creations” (2 Cor. 5:17) resembling the “Man from heaven” (1 Cor. 15:49) Jesus Christ, the Son of God, are charged with, and privileged to… reflect His glory! Therefore, let us break this down beginning with this verse below:

"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).

I want to say “blameless” most likely does not mean “perfect” in the way we think of this word. But it means completely devoted.

If you are familiar with this verse, you know that after the LORD says this, He points out how they failed to live up to this desire of His. And therefore, naturally bore the consequences of that choice. But it is interesting how the LORD says He searches all over the earth in order to give “strong support” to those who are “holy” His. It is absolutely wonderful that there are amazing, supernatural benefits to the one who seeks the LORD with all their heart! It’s not that they just are “obeying” but that the LORD promises supernatural blessing for obedience. And yet, this pattern of Israel neglecting their relationship with God, and refusing to heed His word must have grieved His Spirit terribly. And yet, we do get to see the benefit of being called, “a man after my own heart”. As God said of king David. For he was privileged to be in the line of Jesus, the King of Israel, and a prophet of God who intimately knew the LORD. And left the fruit of that intimacy in the book of Psalms for us to chew on.

So, what is the LORD seeking? He is seeking individuals whose hearts are completely His! He is calling again for a “separation” between the holy and the common. As much as we are to be salt and light in the world, this never means to “join” the world. In fact, we must hold out a true hope for the world. The world only knows a material hope. It only knows a temporary security. The child of God holds the only key to freedom and hope for the one bound by the chains of Satan and bound to this world. The child of God must not fear when the world is afraid. And must rejoice in the hope of the only Savior who will be appearing soon. The child of God must think and believe differently than the world in terms of politics, economy, health, education, family, and career…and in perspective regarding all things pertaining to this life down here.

Truly, I cannot reiterate enough the burden I carry knowing that God is calling and urging His sons and daughters to be separate from the ways, ideas, loves, goals, motives, agendas, and purposes of this world. The Lord is doing everything within His will to encourage His own to come out and to be set-apart unto Him in holiness. I know that when some of God’s kids hear the instruction to “be holy” they only think of this regarding “not sinning.” However, this is only the natural RESULT of being holy. When a child of God resolves in their will to be “set-apart” to God they are now Holy to God. And when they place all things at His feet and under His authority, they will find the power to “walk in holiness” and find sin is naturally “falling away” and the desire to please the Father is increasing.

Now, that was focused on the personal aspect of our walk with God. But what about the corporate or national benefit of the “community or majority” which walks in God’s ways? I want to point out this verse from Malachi, which interestingly enough came before a great judgement was to come upon the nation for neglecting the LORD…again. This statement from Malachi comes before what we know as the “silent years” between the Testaments. But they were IN NO WAY silent! They were terrible! So, let’s examine this verse below:

"Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth" (Malachi 2:15, emphasis mine).

I have this verse here to point out what God’s goal was for the nation of Israel. It was that He would be reflected in each generation and that the nations around them would “see God” in the beautiful union of marriage and family reflecting the LORD and Israel as Husband and Wife. And in the New Testament this is shown in how we are to reflect the Lord to our natural and spiritual offspring in our “holy” marriages and in our “holy” churches. I am curious if America may have fallen into this trap. That we may have failed to create “godly offspring” just as Israel did in both, our households and in our churches. And we are currently bearing the consequences. I know everyone reading this is saying, AMEN!

The Lord is doing everything within His will to encourage His Church. The whole Body-of-Christ to unite in holiness. In considering themselves separate from this world. In determining that they will no longer go after the things this world is striving for. That they will separate from the ideologies, from psychological, secular humanistic, materialistic views, seen in the government, education, military, homes, and some churches, all void of a Creator and Redeemer. In other words, God is doing everything within His will to call His own out of this world. To come out and to be set-apart unto Him in holiness. And when the Church chooses to be holy, She will again be the Salt and the Light of the World. She will be the bearer of “Good News” and be the beacon of hope for humanity. And when She is…She will rejoice in Her beauty as the Bride of Christ, bearing Holy/Godly offspring.

Lastly, we all are aware of the great division within the Body-of-Christ. Some believe that the solution is to ignore our differences by brushing over them with a light coat of paint. However, if these differences are causing division because the Word of God has been neglected as the supreme authority. And part of the Body is walking under the leadership of the Head and the other part is walking around blind and deaf due to separating itself from the Head. Then it cannot be fixed with a light coat of paint. It cannot be “brushed over”. So, I pray the Church will submit Her whole self under Her Head, being Christ. Otherwise, a House divided will fall. Meaning, in Her division She will fail to rightly reflect Her LORD and His glory and America will fall. Since America will have no foundation of truth to stand on and without hope, will collapse. The true Church will never fail, as Jesus promised. But Her division will rend Her ineffective in bringing healing, light, and the hope of salvation to America. So then may we, the beloved children of God, be sure to live by and to proclaim the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). And this way we will never hear this rebuke:

"You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil" (Hebrews 5:12-14).

Let us discern then, truth from error, light from darkness, the holy from the unholy, through continuing to “walk in the LIGHT”
