As it becomes darker in the days to come, which it will. If we, the children born of God, are not “walking in the Light” we will not know “how” to rightly respond to our leaders or to one another. To our Pastors, our Government, our Employers, our Landlords, our Educators, our Police officers, our mother’s, father’s, or children, etc. And if we do not “discern” what is going on around us then we will just keep following like blind sheep whoever is walking in front of us, without stopping to ask anyone for directions.
There have always only been two paths to take, two ways to walk, and only two choices. There is Christ, or there is Satan. We WILL follow one. We “can” be deceived, if we do not KNOW THE TRUTH. I did not say you will “lose” your salvation if you get deceived, but you will create great pain for yourself and your loved ones. Many in the Church have forgotten that we are in a spiritual battle. That those who have living within them the very “light” of Christ by the Holy Spirit will either be a breath of fresh air and life to those seeking the truth, or we will be like rotting flesh and vomit to those who hate the light. We must remember: there is NO in between. There is NO just “getting along, being friends, walking together, accepting one another just as we are, etc.” between the Children of light, the children of the day, and the children of night, those of the darkness WILL oppose one another, because they are as different as God and Satan. Now, you may say, “hold on Mark” that sounds awfully extreme! Well, it is extreme. The Word of God is very clear regarding this subject. As we move forward, speedily through history, IT WILL BECOME OBVIOUS, for “understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive,…[ because of injustice, lawlessness, hate, murder, and much more]… (2 Tim 3:1-2). But, because we do not like to talk about, or read about, or preach about these kinds of subjects, they just get swept under the rug until they are “in our face” (as it is now).
So, we know that Jesus, the Apostle Paul, and others, said (in various ways and places) that “darkness and light have NO fellowship.” “For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Cor. 6:14-18). If you took the time to really examine what you just read, either your jaw just dropped open, or you already clearly understand these verses, or you will try to find your way around it somehow by concentrating on a “nice, happy, love everyone” kind of theology.
This subject of recognizing the distinction between those born of God and those born of Adam, or those born of heaven vs those born of the earth, and other ways the Bible puts it, is very imperative, especially TODAY. And what I mean by today is these days we are living in. Which are considered the “last days” and days of disorder, lawlessness, and chaos and confusion. Or am I wrong? You tell me what you hear and see.
Therefore, “let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),” (Eph. 5:6-9). You read that right? LET NO ONE DECEIVE YOU. This statement is written to “Christians” meaning, it is possible for Christian’s to be deceived by the world. And those last three descriptions of what it means to walk in the light, being what is, good, right and true. Now, according to the Word of God, in every passage on the matter, the only foundation for goodness, righteousness and truth is JESUS CHRIST. If we are not “walking WITH Jesus Christ” in partnership, in fellowship, in intimacy. Then we will most likely not discern what is “good, right, and true” today, or tomorrow, or in the days to come. And then we will walk in the darkness, not knowing where we are going and then the effect will be, we will oppose other believers who are fighting for the truth, plus, everyone who follows us will also be led astray.
Lastly, let me be frank. “IF” the children of God are not dwelling in the “house of God”, for “we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…” (Heb. 3:6-8). Or put another way as is found in Psalm 91:1-2 and Psalm 27:4 that to “dwell” in the presence of God by intimate “space and time” time in prayer, the Word, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, which helps keep our hearts “soft” and our consciences sensitive to His voice. Then we will slowly, gradually, drift into the darkness surrounding us every single day in America. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). So, let us “abide” in the Vine, being Christ. Let us “continue” with Him. Let us “consider” the hour and the day, and look up. Let us ask our Father, “how should I be living today”.
Finally, If we are going to influence this world with “goodness, righteousness, and truth (the gospel of Jesus Christ)” then we must check our foundation and that we are standing on solid, unshakable ground (Christ) and that we have not shifted our weight to place one foot on the sand. That we are noticing what is happening around us and then being willing and intentional to take a stand for the truth.
Amen!!!! We must have our foundation in Christ! Thank you!
