“Though we believers must mix in with the culture externally (like a chocolate chip in cookie dough), we must not allow the culture to mix in with us internally….As tiny cracks in a dam eventually give way to the pressure of the water, mixture in our lives can render us powerless to stand against the pressures of the culture” (Benham, 2016, p. 158).
But by keeping our minds aligned with the truths of scripture we will discern what is “pure vs that which will pollute” us in thought, which eventually will lead to action.
By reminding ourselves to meditate on the pure Word of God “we are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
“The moment we allow just a bit of mixture, the pressure to conform will soon overtake us” (Benham, 2016, p. 159)
