Today let us ask the Lord “What Time is it?”
Remember when Achan caused there to be “sin in the camp” (Joshua 7:1) and before his sin was found out it ended up having a detrimental effect on the whole camp of Israel, until Achan’s sin was rightly dealt with.
We live in a day of “spiritual compromise” in the Church. There is sin in the camp! David and Jason Benham in “Living Among Lions” note how “small compromises are like undiagnosed viruses; they can spread through you undetected until deadly” (pg. 158). The Bible also notes that “a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough” (Galatians 5:9).
We as Chrisitan’s are to “live in” this world, but we are not to “mix with” this world. Due to small compromises within the Church over a period of many years we are lacking discernment between what is true and what is false doctrine. What God says is “holy” vs what many Bible teachers and pastors are saying is “holy”. Truly there is confusion and disorder within us, a confusion which has led to animosity and walls and hatred. How will the world know we belong to Jesus? Yep, by our love. Yet, also this word according to how Christ has defined it has lost its power. The love of Christ brings about conviction, sanctification; it comes with power and consecration and ultimately it is a “holy love”. We must remember that before all things God is HOLY first. Holy, holy, holy! Holy in love and holy in wrath. And we as His disciples and representatives are to live in accordance with our “identity”. Being, born of heaven, or a “holy seed”.
So what time is it? First, the hour is LATE! In truth, it is not time to “plan vacations, or plan careers, or plan the new house, or the 401k, or the college education; it is NOT time to plant your roots in the earth!” What time is it Lord? It is time to AWAKEN from sleep! It is time to consecrate yourselves to Me. It is time to seek me with ALL your heart, in prayer, in repentance, in holiness. “In returning and rest”, not in business and going here and there. But in “seeking FIRST the Kingdom of heaven”. Today it is time to be reconciled to God and one another, not through compromise, not by ignoring difficult issues, but by facing them and being joined as “one body, submitted to One head, Christ our Lord”…in TRUTH and holy love!
Finally, this is what time it is, as Paul said:
"This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away" [1 Corinthians 7:29-31]
